What is it like to WFH in 2035?

Being a data science student, there’s nothing more exciting than being able to predict the future. I do not do it by looking at celestial objects or a movement of a mere planet, but by analysing data we retrieve from scientific experiments. Let’s sneak in to one of the predictions I have made using data analytics…

I have shared a survey among the public and gathered their responses. Needless to say, the identity is protected. my survey’s aim is to estimate the rise of remote workers by 2035. Even Though COVID-19 has given us a fair chance of increasing the value, I believe the future is unpredictable. For instance, by 2025, there can be defensive biological weapons against all odds like viruses or who knows if human-kind adapts to strong and powerful diseases? Regardless of the future’s unpredictability, it is always better to be prepared than to be sorrowful.

Sri Lanka’s employability is high despite the net income of an individual. Ever wondered why? 40% of Sri Lanka’s employees are free-lancers in 2021 and work remotely. USA on the other hand, has a similar figure of 30% from the general population (Freelancers Union, 2015). Our prediction is 50% or higher in 2035. More than half of the general population, regardless being pensioners, tend to enjoy the work they free-lance for. Also, job security has played a huge role in this. With COVID-19 lot of people were left jobless, or kicked-out. So, the best option to make a living out of their skills was to free-lance while employers also found it cost-saving, less paper-work, and no need of office-premises for jobs that are seasonal.

The internet speed unless you are living in a rural area or using a very-branded but slow service-provider is 11.8Mbps(Megabytes per second). This value may vary from country to country. But our prediction is that it’d reach 12.5Gbps due to the high demand of remote workers (Google, 2021). It means we can download all our backups, photos in just a matter of two minutes. It’s really fast, right?.

With the recent launch of Iphone 12ProMax, 5G came back into attention. We are now more than ever, interested in the 6G and 6th Generation of technology? Why? Because a lot of us work remotely, almost anywhere, anytime. So it’s not mandatory to have a laptop to become a remote-worker anymore. You can become a remote worker with a mobile phone. Having super-fast internet, 10–100Gbps is all about a win-win strategy for employees and employers. But sadly, even though all this sounds exciting now, once we achieve all these targets in 2035, yet we are in thirst of new technologies. As usual, demand becomes higher and service has to be limitless.
